  • The blog controversy...

I've done a bit of designing. Not really because I'm switching back to Xanga, but because I happen to be friends with someone who's done a couple of themes for Xanga and I was looking for something to use to change up Chip's blogger.  Anyway, if you're looking for an easy way to change the look of your blog, check out the designs done by carriep63.

And you can still find me over at Wordpress -

  • Even *I* could be a winner...

I love to win stuff.  I'm not very good at it.  Guess I'm just not all that lucky.  But it's still fun to play.  So today while the kids were busy picnicking outside and Lexie was sleeping, I was visiting the site of a friend who wins all kinds of stuff.  I followed a link and then followed a link (I never know where I"ll end up when I start down that road) and I stumbled upon whogets.com free sweepstakes

Really, it's a pretty novel idea.  Most online sites just use some random computer generated program to choose winners.  This sites lets the other users decide who wins.  And you can see exactly how many other people you're up against to win.  The odds look pretty good to me!  AND if you make it to the semi-finals, you can plead your case as to why you should win. You can share blog posts, news and other tidbits to gain popularity.  I wonder if I can get enough of my blog fans to sign up so I can win something?  Y'all love me that much, right?

  • My own garage guy...

Chip has suddenly started spending a lot of time in the garage.  He's been working with a guy to learn how to do more hands on type stuff because he's finding that he really enjoys it.  We did find an amazing deal on some cordless tools the other day.  And he was able to use them yesterday to install a cabinet and counter in the garage (which is most likely what will happen with the cabinets that are about to come out of our kitchen).  Unfortunately, our garage lighting is less than adequate.  One of the things that he'll likely be doing soon is searching for a way to install more lighting.  It's not too bad during the day and right now because of the season, because he can just open up the garage door.  But Daylight Savings is going to be upon us soon (or off of us - I still don't know quite how that all works) and it will be getting darker earlier. Not to mention colder.  Thankfully, part of his learning to be more hands on, means that he'll be able to install some new lights in the garage himself.

  • Going through the archives...

Because I recently downloaded my archives, I've been going back and doing a lot of reading.  Looking at what point in my life I had the most to say or hardly had anything to say at all.  February of 06 was particularly rough because Chip was sick for 6 weeks at that point.  I was hardly posting at all.  March found him even sicker and in the hospital and me posting more than ever as I worked to keep y'all updated.

In the midst of all of that though, I found a post on Tuesday, March 14th that was little more than a meme.  But as I read through last night, I found myself stuck on question #8.  What would I do with a BILLION dollars?

That's a LOT of money.  I'm sure I'd give most of it away.  I'd invest for the future.  And I'd buy some property.  I mean, if you like city living, why not buy property in the city?  And because my husband wasn't home last night until 1:30am, it gave me a bit of time to play online.

I found some really interesting Upper West Side apartments in NYC.  Those apartments are AMAZING!  I think it would be cool to have an apartment in a big city somewhere that I could let friends and family and pastors go and hang out in the city for a while at no cost to them.  Because with a BILLION dollars, I could definitely afford that kind of thing!  And it would be kind of cool to be able to escape to New York or Chicago (as in my original post) for a weekend or a week every once in a while!

  • Why did I move? How did I move?

I've gotten a lot of questions about why I'm moving blog hosts.  And *how* I'm doing it/did it.

The why is easier.  I have certain things on my blog that run via javascript and that feature simply wasn't available anymore on Xanga.  I've heard they are working on it, but I heard they were working on anonymous comments for two years before I ever saw that happen.  Add to that fact that I have to pay for premium to allow more than 10 people to see protected posts and download my archives and it just got to be a hassle.  I'll probably still post here from time to time, but I'm not making any promises.

How I did it is a bit more complicated.  What eventually ended up happening is I got in contact with a friend who has their own server.  I emailed her my archives and she imported them into her wordpress and then make a download file which she emailed to me and I then uploaded.  It was a pain, but got done after we both found time to be online at the same time.  Definitely would have been easier if we'd have done some sort of file sharing so we could have both had access to it online at the same time.

I think I'm going to sign up anyway (even though it's too late for my former projects) because then I can upload my pictures so my mom and other family members have free access to the originals so if they want to bring them in to get them printed or anything they can. I like that it can be set up to have multiple users and it can be used to get around online email servers that have limitations on attachment sizes.  I'm really starting to see the benefits of it.
